About the event

The Interconnected Dance.

Katie Lusby is a freelance performer, teacher and facilitator with over 15 years' experience in contemporary dance and physical theatre.

Katie loves dancing alone, but her favourite thing is to dance with other people. To tune-in to the others in the space - to their movements, their flow, their dynamics. To notice the shapes & forms the bodies take, the pathways they carve in the space, and the opportunities this presents. To sense what arises, what dissipates, and how the individual and collective energies might gather, develop and transform. Like the butterfly effect, one small occurrence can influence a much larger, complex system. This workshop is an invitation to explore and play with the endless possibilities that lie in a shared, interconnected dance.

The session will begin with a guided improvisation to get us flowing and warmed-up, before moving onto some exercises and explorations for interconnected dancing. How can we really listen through all our senses and tune-in to one another? How can we increase our level of awareness so that we can respond sensitively and dynamically to what’s going on? What will we need to do as individuals to contribute to the shared movement world we’ll find ourselves in? After the 90-min workshop class we’ll move into a free jam, with Temenos resident DJ FX10K on music duties.

Come and join us as we play, explore and discover something together. No previous dance experience required - everyone is welcome!

Katie has worked with companies such as Gecko, Punchdrunk, and VOXED, and with choreographers such as Akram Khan (London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony), Tom Jackson Greaves, Fin Walker, Aletta Collins, James Cousins and Dam Van Huynh. Alongside performing, Katie has also worked extensively as a teacher and facilitator in various educational, professional and community settings. She has taught in primary and secondary schools, been a guest lecturer for vocational dance institutions and universities such as London Contemporary Dance School, The Royal Ballet School and Falmouth University as well as teaching professional dancers in company and open classes. Whatever the setting, Katie loves to share her expertise and passion for dance and theatre, and hopes to inspire and enable people to discover a love for their own movement, creativity and expression. She currently lives in Cornwall and in 2023 she founded Nos Danza Presents, a project dedicated to sharing the joy and transformative power of dance with people from all walks of life.
