About the event
Temenos welcomes the return of Deep Space for this one-off special event on Friday 31st May.
Deep Space was a project that ran for just over 2 months at the end of 2023 on Monday evenings at the Amadeus Centre in West London.
Created by Temenos founder Felix Oram and somatic practitioner Emily Phillips, it was a deeply restorative and somatically informed movement session that supported us into movement from a place of stillness and deep connection.
Many of us have found, given the pace and distractions of technology-fuelled modern life, that there is a need to slow down, go inwards and listen deeply to our bodies. Deep Space was created with this need very much in mind. It is a space of gentleness, where we don't rush or push, rather we take the time we need to connect with ourselves and then, when we are ready, explore movement.
The evening will begin with a contemplative meditation and gentle somatic warm up followed by a gentle but powerful musical wave filled with rich, emotive, textured music. For the final part of the evening we will be treated to a delicious gong bath and sound healing session from Kaja Kippenberg.
Here is some information on the gong and sound healing part of the evening:
Kaja will be bringing two gongs, a large (40”) Nepalese Singing gong with a dark, warm timbre, and a smaller (32”) symphonic gong with a lighter sound. The two gongs are made from different materials and complement each other beautifully.
Listening to the gongs can be a bit like when you’re watching clouds move across the sky, with shoes and patterns emerging, dissolving, changing and shifting. It is an engaging and deeply relaxing experience.
The gong bath will last for about 45 minutes, and includes other sound healing instruments besides the gongs.
To keep yourself cozy, we suggest you bring a yoga mat and a blanket or an extra sweater. We also have some blankets for those of you who can’t easily bring extra things.
Kaja has been training as a sound healing practitioner (voice and gong) for the past two years. Her gong teacher is the internationally respected Sheila Whittaker, who speaks of ‘bringing out sound bouquets’ to harmonise body, mind and spirit.
Overall the evening will be a deeply restorative, experience offering somatic nourishment and support.
